Victory of Justice: NCB’s Strong Action Against Drug Traffickers

 

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) continues its relentless efforts in combating the menace of drug trafficking across India. Through meticulous investigations and prosecution, NCB has achieved significant successes in ensuring that offenders are brought to justice. The following convictions in various zones highlight the same.

 

Hyderabad Zone

 

On March 31, 2021, 332 kilograms of ganja were seized from a Bolero pick-up vehicle at Pedda Amberpet, Hyderabad. The vehicle was driven by Anil Babruwan Kale, who was transporting the consignment from Sileru, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Pune and Osmanabad. After a thorough investigation, the case was filed in court. On December 2, 2024, Anil Babruwan Kale was convicted within just three years and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of ₹1 lakh.

 

Indore Zone

 

1.      In August 2022, NCB Indore intercepted a truck on National Highway 69 in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, and seized 206 kilograms of ganja. Mohd. Haseeb Khan and Saddam Khan, who were present at the spot, were arrested. The investigation revealed that the consignment was transported from Rajmundry, Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, syndicate members Safruddin Khan and Shoyeb Khan @ Anku were apprehended. On December 3, 2024, the court convicted all four accused and sentenced them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of ₹2 lakh each.

        

 

 

 

 

2.      In April 2021, NCB Indore seized 63.115 kilograms of ganja at Allonia Toll Plaza, Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, from a vehicle driven by Mohd. Raphi Khan and Krutibasa Sathua. It was revealed that the consignment was being transported from Narsinghapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh. On November 22, 2024, the court convicted both accused and sentenced them to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of ₹1 lakh each.

 

Mumbai Zone

 

On September 8, 2021, the NCB Mumbai team conducted a raid at the residence of Arif Rashid Shaikh and seized 52.3 grams of Mephedrone. Investigations revealed that the accused had procured, stored, and intended to distribute the contraband in coordination with a Nigerian national. Following a trial, on December 3, 2024, the court convicted Arif Rashid Shaikh and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of ₹1 lakh. In case of non-payment, an additional sentence of 2 years RI was imposed.

 

Patna Zone

 

1.      On February 13, 2021, NCB Patna intercepted a car at Zero Mile Bypass, Gaya-Masaurhi Road, Patna, and seized 96 kilograms of ganja hidden in a secret cavity. The consignment was being transported from Brahmapur, Odisha, to Masaurhi, Patna, via Ranchi-Gaya. The accused, Chunnu Kumar and Deepak Kumar, were arrested. On November 21, 2024, the court convicted both accused, sentencing them to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of ₹1 lakh each.

        

2.      In another case on August 3, 2018, NCB, with the assistance of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), seized 2.1 kilograms of charas from a bag carried by Khusboo Tara Sheikh @ Khusboo Tara Khatoon at Raxaul Bypass, Champaran, Bihar. Investigations revealed that she was transporting the charas from Nepal to Jokiyari, Champaran, Bihar. On November 26, 2024, the court convicted her and sentenced her to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of ₹1 lakh.
